 Affordable housing is only a part of the story

There has been a renewed focus on affordable housing in both the public and private sectors. But is it enough to address the needs and opportunities in the underserved and underinvested communities? While affordable housing development and new housing stock is part of the solution; it is merely a piece of the pie as it relates to creating economic growth in the areas that need the most investment. While housing is a significant need in distressed areas, without an eye on providing and creating new opportunity for residents, the result is likely to be high-density lower income dwellings and concentrated poverty.
